WELCOMING A NEW TEAM OF NATIONAL OFFICERS OF THE HINDU STUDENTS ASSOCIATION
At the start of this new year, the Hindu Students Association welcomed in its new team of national officers. This new team assembled from individuals from around the United States will work together to inspire young Hindus to bring culture and tradition to college campuses, while developing awareness of Hinduism.
The new team of National Officers are (Clockwise, Starting from Upper-Left):

Chief Technology Officer: Pooja Rathan
Saumya Saran, the National President, has accepted a position in an artificial intelligence startup company as a Robotics Engineer in Palo Alto, CA. He received a Masters of Engineering degree from the University of Michigan in Robotics and Autonomous Vehicles and Bachelors of Science degrees from the University of Texas at Dallas in Computer Engineering and Business Administration. Saumya has remained involved in Hindu related activities for the past 6 years, both on campus and in the community. He was elected treasurer at the UT Dallas branch of HSA, and became national secretary in the 2012-2013 term. His hobbies include tennis and classical Hindustani music.
Hari Venkatachalam, the National Vice President, is currently a student at the University of South Florida and aspires to obtain a Masters in Public Health. He works as an independent paralegal services and educational services contractor in the Tampa Bay Area and holds a Bachelors of Arts in Religious Studies and and Bachelors of Science in Neuroscience and Biological Sciences. He previously held the position of National Correspondent for the Hindu Students Association. He has been active in community services as a previous AmeriCorps Member and currently volunteers as a member of Big Brothers Big Sisters Tampa Bay. He also is trained in Carnatic Music and actively participates in events at the local Indian Cultural Center and with the Tampa Tamil Association of USA.
Mrinalini Vijalapuram, the National Secretary, received a Bachelors of Arts degree in International Relations & Global Service, a minor in Asian studies, a Business Foundations certification from the University of Texas at Austin, and is currently pursuing a degree in International Law as well. Mrinalini has been active in the Hindu college community for the past 4 years, serving as Secretary and Holi Co-Chair at the UT Austin branch of HSA. Mrinalini is an avid traveler, taking any chance she gets to visit different countries, and explore different cultures. Her hobbies include photography and running.
Sagar Vira, the National Chief Financial Officer, accepted a position at Bank of America as a Financial Analyst. He will be graduating in May 2015 from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a concentration in Finance. He has previously worked as the was the Director of Gateway 2013 and as the Chief Technology Officer. Outside of HSA, Sagar is a certified Emergency Medical Technician, an Eagle Scout, and a member of Emory’s nationally-ranked Raas and Garba team. He enjoys playing ultimate frisbee, soccer, and partaking in service and leadership opportunities.
Pooja Rathan, the National Chief Technology Officer, is currently a Senior at the University of Texas at Dallas. She is pursuing a degree in Business, and has been an active participant and board member of the Hindu Students Association for more than two years. She has previously also served as the Executive Branch President for the Hindu Students Association.
As a new team, we will be pursuing several new projects and setting several long terms goals. The Hindu Students Associations Retreat is a planned retreat organized by the Hindu Students Association for both branch members and officers. The retreat will include religious discourses and social gatherings, and will be useful in spreading knowledge about the Hindu faith to attendees while also helping them network with other Hindu students across our various branches.
